Photoshoot FAQs: Things You May Want To

These FAQs cover how shoots work from start to finish, including planning, locations, what to bring, what happens on the day, boundaries and consent, image selection, editing, delivery, and image use.

They apply to outdoor shoots across Devon and Cornwall, including Plymouth and Torbay.

How much are photoshoots?

Most photoshoots cost £199. The Portfolio Builder shoot costs £349.
I can discount these prices if you agree in advance that I can use selected images on my website and social media. The discount depends on the shoot and the usage agreed. It can be up to 100%, so your shoot may very well be free.

Who will take my pictures?

I’m Alan Lloyd, and I will be your photographer for your photoshoot. I plan the shoot, give direction during the session, and take the photographs. I also handle image selection, editing, and delivery.

Sometimes I bring an assistant to a shoot. If I do, I will tell you in advance.

Can I bring someone with me on my photoshoot?

Yes. You can bring a friend, partner, or parent. Many first-time models do.
I will agree where they can stand so they do not block light or interrupt the session. If you are under 18, you should bring a parent or legal guardian.

What sort of photoshoots do you do?

I offer a range of photoshoots, but they fall into two groups: sessions suitable for under-18s, and sessions for adults aged 18+ only. I confirm suitability and boundaries before booking.

Photoshoots suitable for under 18s
Urban portraits and fashion-style shoots
Environmental portraits
Fitness-style photoshoots
Lifestyle and casual portraits
Portfolio starter shoots (fully clothed)
Cosplay (fully clothed)

If you are under 18, I can only shoot you fully clothed, and a parent or legal guardian must be with you during the photoshoot.

Photoshoots suitable for adults
Swimwear photoshoots
Lingerie photoshoots
Cosplay (adult themes, lingerie, implied, or nude)
Implied nude photography
Artistic nude photography
Artistic low light bodyscapes
Confidence Builder Shoots (can include any of the above)

How long does a photoshoot last?

Most photoshoots last around 60 minutes. Some shoots run longer if we use multiple locations, change outfits, or build a larger set of images. I confirm the expected duration before you book, and I plan the timing around travel, light, and the type of shoot.

What should I bring to a photoshoot?

Bring outfits that fit the shoot type, plus one or two simple backups. Choose clothes that fit well and allow you to move comfortably. For outdoor shoots, bring a warm coat or robe, comfortable shoes for walking between spots, and water. If you plan outfit changes, bring a bag to keep everything organised.

What about hair and make-up?

I recommend simple, natural make-up for most shoots. It usually photographs better outdoors and it keeps the focus on you, not heavy styling.

If you want professional make-up, you can hire a make-up artist to join us. You pay them directly. Book them to arrive about an hour before we plan to start shooting, so you are ready on time.

Can I bring outfit changes?

Yes. Outfit changes are fine, and they can help vary the final set of images. More changes do reduce shooting time though, so it helps to plan them in advance. Ask me before the shoot and we can discuss what is realistic for the time booked.

For Portfolio Builder photoshoots, I recommend five different outfit changes.

Do you provide a changing area?

Most shoots take place outdoors, often in remote locations such as beaches, moors, and quiet countryside spots. These areas may not have public toilets or anywhere suitable to change.

If you plan outfit changes, you need to bring a large towel, robe, or changing poncho so you can cover yourself while changing.

How many photos will I receive?

I choose the best images from the shoot and send you the finished edits. You will receive a minimum of five images per outfit. If we capture more strong images, you can purchase extra edits for a small fee.

How long does it take to receive my images?

Most shoots are delivered within 7 to 14 days. Delivery time can vary depending on the time of year, the number of outfits, and the amount of editing required.

I have been known to get images delivered the same day.

What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?

For outdoor shoots, weather matters. If conditions make the shoot unsafe or impractical, we will reschedule. If the weather is workable, we can often continue with small adjustments, such as using sheltered spots or changing the order of locations.

I will confirm the plan with you close to the shoot date. Please include a phone number when you book, so I can contact you quickly if we need to reschedule.
